Subcutaneous sebaceous cysts can occur at any age, and while the exact risk factors are unknown, they are twice as common in men as in women, and most frequently seen in those aged 30-40. They are also more common in people with a history of severe acne.
Skin sebaceous cysts are visible and palpable as round, smooth-edged, skin-colored nodules. They usually have an opening and can vary in size from millimeters to several centimeters (0.5-5 cm). They may be single or multiple.
The cysts are slightly mobile and can be found anywhere on the skin, including the face, scalp, arms, legs, torso, and genitals. They are often asymptomatic. Scrotal cysts can occur in multiple locations and are often hard and calcified.
Common side effects of sebaceous cysts include infection, causing swelling, redness, and pain. Fever may also occur. While these cysts are generally harmless, there is a risk of abnormalities or cancer. Patients should consult a doctor for a thorough examination if they notice any of the following symptoms:
Laser Treatment : This is commonly used for small moles. The laser used for mole removal is a CO2 laser. Before the laser treatment, the doctor will apply a local anesthetic to the treatment area. It takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour for the anesthetic to take effect, or a local anesthetic may be injected, depending on the doctor's discretion. Multiple moles can be removed at once, without limitation on the number. After the laser treatment, the doctor will apply an antiseptic and cover the area with a small plaster to prevent contact with water for one day. After the plaster is removed, the area can be exposed to water, but the antiseptic should be applied again for about 7 days. Avoid direct sunlight, as it may cause the scar to darken. However, if you want to use sunscreen, do so after the wound has healed completely. Avoid using cosmetics on the laser or surgical wound until it has healed completely.
Surgical Removal : In this method, the doctor will inject a local anesthetic around the mole and then excise it. The wound is then sutured closed. The procedure takes approximately 30-45 minutes. The scar from the sutures is just a small line and will gradually fade over time. Surgery is effective for large moles because it allows for a deep incision to remove the entire mole. After surgery, the wound must be kept dry until the stitches are removed, which the doctor will schedule a follow-up appointment for approximately 5-10 days later.
The ideal size for acne scars to treat is no more than 3 millimeters. It can quickly conceal acne scars, but the results depend on age, skin condition, depth, width, characteristics of the scar, and individual response. Some cases may require a combination of treatment techniques. There is no downtime after treatment; you can resume your normal activities and work immediately.
